MLA CE Week 3--Part 2

Hello--When I started to post the other day, I was interrupted and had to cut it short before I could respond to all of the questions in our assignment for the Week. Wanted to add that it was very useful to me to begin to see ways in which these tools can be used and which one should be used for a certain outcome. I created some additional blogs but then realized that one of them would be better as a wiki--live and learn! After seeing the students who regularly corresponded with a colleague of mine at another library, I realized how helpful this could be. As far as privacy, yes, I am concerned and think that people should be cautious in putting out personal information.
I just heard that a young man hacked into MySpace or another site after reading a "Dummies" book. I really benefitted from LinkedIn. As soon as I had registered and posted, I received a great contact from someone I had met a few years ago. Thanks!

MLA CE Week 3

I have to say that participating in Facebook has been a lot of fun. I like being able to check and respond to email while doing a PubMed or World Cat search. Being able to share with other colleagues and find out about their non-library interests was eye-opening as well.

I was not aware of LinkedIn before this week. It looks like a great way to keep in touch with old classmates and contacts at other institutions.

This class is a great way to practice what our students already know!

MLA CE Week 2

I'm excited to begin using blogs and wikis but have a lot to learn. I read the article on using wikis to collaborate online, and I note that it is called the 'perfect tool for collaboration.' This is a great way to build a community around a particular aspect of the library.

I'm wondering if wikis should start out with a few participants and gradually build or whether invitations should be given out liberally. Should wikis be updated frequently? Would like to hear from others who have been using them.

MLA CE Week 1

Hello,

This is my first experience using a library blogger. I think it would have great professional value in sharing ideas with other librarians who are liaisons to faculty across various disciplines.

I'm anxious to hear from others who have had success with this format. I have been interested in setting up RSS feeds for several areas and be able to send alerts to interested faculty.
